Principles That Guide Us – Part II
You’re Going to Like These Changes!
In our last newsletter, we told you of our guiding principles, our Triple Bottom Line PLUS: Profit, People, Planet and Pets. We have plans for embodying those values in new ways in 2020 which we’d like to share.
Education remains one of our prime directives. We’ll have more classes in 2020 – especially cooking classes, which were such a hit with you in 2019. We will also launch our spiffy new website! It will allow people in more places to enjoy the benefits of Marty’s Meals. But our main goal is to make it a resource for you. We spend a lot of time keeping up with research on animal nutrition, risks to the food chain, and other issues. We want to be your go-to forum for answers to questions about pet food. Stay tuned.
New food varieties are coming in 2020! We’re always excited by new food options.
Morgan, in our kitchen, created new recipes for Jack’s Snacks which we will be rolling out in 2020.
We will introduce a new Rockfish recipe. The Monterey Bay Aquarium’s SeafoodWatch lists Rockfish (when caught under particular conditions) as one of the most sustainable options for those who want fish in their or their pet’s diet. We will be following their recommendations.
We’ll also introduce a wider variety of feline food options. More on those later.
We’re certifiable! (But you knew that.) We’ve received our Non-GMO certification for the second year in a row and will have our Organic certification by the end of January. Whew! These processes take a lot of time, and no small investment of cash year after year. We’ll label our foods accordingly and be glad to finally be official.
Final roll-out of our new thaw-and-serve containers is almost here. You’ve wanted more convenient containers, and we’ve wanted packaging that is easier to manage in the kitchen and reduces waste. These containers meet all requirements. Your feedback has helped every step of the way.
The natural complement to these actions is our intention to seek certification as a B Corporation in 2020.
“Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose…. By harnessing the power of business, B Corps use profits and growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and the environment.”
You will recognize other Certified B Corporations: Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, Taos Ski Valley, and Positive Energy Solar. We will be glad to join their ranks in 2020. We need more companies that seek, not just profit, but the good of their employees, community, and customers, and act responsibly toward our planet, our shared home.
We’re excited by all of these changes, and hope you’ll like where we’re going. See you soon!
